No one like you in the sky


As an upcoming pokemon trainer you have travelled your way across the Unova region with the help of your pokemon team. Overcoming great challenge and sometime facing defeat by the hands of powerful gym leaders that left you feeling like nothing. Yet you carried on. Training and training becoming closer to your pokemon, learning their skills and how each of them battle. You don't call yourself skilled yet others recognise it. Trainers you battle as well as anyone who see you battle with your team of pokemon. Yet this did not count for one young women by the name of Skyla.

The flying type gym leader of Mistralton City  and your current employer. You joined her gym about a year ago with the reason I belong here. Though what that meant you still didn't know to this day and you said it to get here. Still today would be no different for you today at the gym, checking your pokemon, helping new gym trainers, Skyla with training and of course dealing her grandfather who always had to complain about her granddaughter and her lack of care for being a gym leader.

Though you have to admit you do worry too as Skyla does have a tendency to sneak off when she has challengers to her gym. Lucky for the challengers, you could bring her back as over you time here you learnt some trick plus its what your were hired for and today would be no different.

Six o'clock and already in the light blue painted pokemon gym you walk in to see Skyla and her grandfather having an argument over the time you brought her back to the gym.

“Its terrible that one of your own gym trainers should have to bring you back to your gym so many times Skyla!” Her grandfather shouts following his angry granddaughter behind as she stomps across her light blue painted battlefield.

“Oh right well if he's so good make him gym leader!” Skyla argues back continuing to stomp away from her grandfather towards the gym break room.

You could only sigh watching from the front door of the gym as you'd heard Skyla say this so many times since you came here. Sure unlike most of the gym trainers here you actually earned Skyla's badge but this whole thing about you taking over the gym has really began to take it it toll on you like an old repeated joke.

“Let him take over. As if I want too.” You mumble slowly walking to the break room to put down your rucksack hearing Skyla and her grandfather still arguing. By now the two of them stood face to face near the wooden table of the rest room shouting at each other before finally they notice you enter with you ruck slung over your left shoulder and a neutral look on your face making them stop for a moment before Skyla in a very immature way turns the argument to you saying.

“Oh look its NAME. Guess today your going to have chase me down a lot more since your the only trainer in this gym that my stupid grandfather thinks could be a better gym leader then me!”

You say nothing knowing to fire back would only give the flying gym leader more ammo to fire back at you. Instead you simply throw your rucksack beside the table you leave to return to work and try to calm down a bit from Skyla's comment.

Your work soon takes over your thoughts with more gym trainers coming in as well as the needs of your own flying type pokemon. Your day begins to slowly tick away helping when you can with gym duties as well as dealing with challengers who couldn't beat you. So far Skyla had not had any challengers yet all she did is sit around in the break room complaining to anyone who came in about her grandfather and of course telling everyone about how her grandfather thought you'd make a better gym leader.

By the afternoon everyone in the gym had grown bored of Skyla complaining and moping leaving her to just sit in the break room alone while they went out to lunch. As for you ,well you were busy with a young male trainer fighting your flying team with a full electric type pokemon team.

His tactic of going all out with his attacks made it easy for your flying team to avoid most of his moves. However when they did hit with the type advantage your pokemon couldn't stand up to the attack leading soon to your defeat.

“All right guess I better get Skyla.” You say watching the young boy begin to pump himself up with some self prep talk about being as faster as lighting and as loud as thunder. You couldn't help but smile remembering your time battling Skyla. Pumping yourself up to the point where you nearly felt too tired to battle her. Though your happy memories soon came to grinding halt when you got to the break room to find Skyla not there and a piece of white paper left on the table.

“Oh great” You mumble expecting this note to say something like, gone out flying come find me or hungry so went flying in my plane. However wondering over and snatching up the note in your right hand you begin to read the note to find it wasn't a note but a addressed to you expect instead of your name it said, dear person better then me.

After thinking it over I think my grandfather right. You and your super skills should take over the gym and I'll go back to flying. After all your so much better then me in so much like looks, personality and pokemon so this is my letter to you to say good luck and don't bother looking for me. I got hungry so I went for a fly on my Unfezant. Skyla.

At once you feel a bit of angry shoot through you as shoving the letter into your jacket pocket, you dash out the gym yelling back to the young man that Skyla would be with him soon. He didn't seem to be paying much attention as he continues to pump himself up with prep talk as you rush to the pokemon centre to heal your pokemon.

Knowing Skyla usually flying routes in your head, you quickly have nurse joy heal your pokemon before hitching a ride on one outside the centre into the orange sky above the city. Though the sky may be big, Skyla couldn't be more predicable as quickly flying across the sky towards her grandfathers house near the edge of the city, you soon catch up to on her Unfezant slowly going along.

“Skyla there a challenger for you!” You making her look back at you as your pokemon flies closer to hers. However without a word suddenly her pokemon shots off with her at high speed forcing your pokemon to give chase with you on its back. You continue to try to shout to Skyla about the challenger only to get responses back such as who cares! Aren't you the gym leader now Mr super trainer?

This continues on and on for about an hour before finally unable to hold back your angry at how immature Skyla is being your angrily shout as your continue to chase her.

“Fine be like that Skyla. But I'm telling you right now, no one in this world can replace you as gym leader. Whatever your grandfather says about you or any other trainer in the gym your the reason people come to the gym. You make people happy, you make people smile just being you with your crazy red hair style, your cute outfits and your fun personality. I know it doesn't mean anything coming from me but..”

For a moment you struggle to speak feeling your heart swell and your nerves shake like a leaf in the wind. Yet with a breath you continue to shout.

“I wouldn't want to chase after anyone else but you. Your special to me Skyla and but I know the reason I feel so at home here is because of you. Perhaps because I..”

At this you got quiet. Knowing you shouldn't say such things to your boss, you order your flying pokemon to head back to the gym leaving Skyla to continue her journey with some new thoughts popping into her head.

As for you, your arrival at the gym an hour later brought you a very upset looking boy from earlier waiting on the gym's battlefield for you. His light blue eyes tearing up and his once cheerful tone now a low sad tone as he asks you if Skyla isn't coming?

“I'm sorry the gym leader is busy.” You say unable to look as the young boy bravely holds back his tears as he answers with a sad sounding OK I'll come back tomorrow. The whole gym watches as you lead the boy to the gym door slowly and quietly. You couldn't believe you had failed to bring Skyla back and now as you slowly open the door  for the boy, you pat him on the back praising him for being strong as he takes a step out the gym.

Yet suddenly from the orange sky of unova, a loud yell catches the attention of you and the young boy, making you both look up to see Skyla flying straight towards you on her Unfezant yelling down in her cheerful, fun loving tone.  

“Hey you two stay right there!”

You couldn't believe it but landing on the ground before you both, Skyla pushes you both back into the gym before announcing in her usual way theatrical way that she had come to accept the challenge from the brave trainer who beat her trainers with his super skills. The boy's face lit up with a smile hearing this before calling out “It's me Skyla, I'm the brave trainer!”

Skyla then with a bright smile on her face tells the boy to ready himself for the greatest battle ever before then turning to you with the same smile on her face. She nods at you before suddenly planting her lips on yours. Cheering and a loud Ohs come from all the gym trainers around you both  before she slowly pulls away making you look at Skyla with a blushing face as she looks back you with a smile and red cheeks.

You didn't know what to say, but Skyla did and after a small giggle she says to you.

“Thank you. I don't know what your going to say back there but if it helps I want to say I.. I love you more then the sky name.”

With that the gym trainer and the boy laugh as suddenly feeling the moment you both embrace leaving behind all your troubles and feeling as free as the sky you and Skyla love.
